Phonics are important at our school. It is vital that every teacher teach the same phonics sounds. For this reason, this page has been created to allow you to hear and practice the sounds before teaching them.

Just click on the letter and you will hear the phonics sound taught to our students.

Bear in mind that the phonic sound of a letter is a phoneme, (definition: the smallest sound unit in a word – often represented by a single letter ('a', 'm') but sometimes by a combination of two letters).

Don't make the mistake of stretching out the sound of a phoneme, it is a very short sound.

Chinese students have particular difficulty pronouncing the "L", "R", and "V" sounds and particular difficulty distinguishing between "A" and "E" as well as ""B" and "D" phonemes.

The easiest way is to choose a word that contains the sound, (example: i as in = ink) and stick to recreating the sound from that word in order to maintain consistancy.
